Audi introduce Magnetic Ride Dampers

This damping system allowed the driver to regulate the damping forces of the suspension depending on the road conditions.

Using magnetic fields, Audi magnetic ride provided the right degree of damping force at each individual wheel. The control unit, supplied by complex sensing technology, constantly analysed the situation and, within fractions of a second, adjusted accordingly. It also gave the driver a choice of settings for either a more comfortable or a sportier drive.

This ground breaking technology was an option with the second generation Audi TT as well as featuring in the flagship model of the time, the Audi R8.
